COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Wen Bing theory (Warm Disease theory) was developed during the Qing Dynasty and offers a detailed understanding of the foundations and clinical treatment of warm diseases. Marc Mastrandrea, as the first disciple of the renowned TCM master, Xu Shi Xi, for his Yin Style Bagua Zhang lineage, and Jeffrey Yuen's devoted student, will share his knowledge of how to successfully manage Wen Bing internal disease.

This course is separated into four parts and is designed to help practitioners successfully treat Wen Bing internal diseases effectively in their clinical practice. It is highly recommended to attend all four parts for an optimal learning experience.

Part I
Marc introduces the basics - the foundation and development of Wen Bing theory, including the history, cause of disease, and pattern differentiation. Additional topics covered include: 3 stages of progression, Wen Bing versus Shang Han Lun, common Wen Bing pulses, pulse analysis, Wen Bingtongue analysis, and skin diagnosis.

Part II
Marc continues with skin diagnosis, Wen Bing fever diagnosis, sweating, pain, thirst, vomiting, physical discomfort, urine, stool, state of consciousness, and tetany. Followed by an overview of the four levels pattern identification of Wen Bing theory (Wei, Qi, Ying, and Xue) and San Jiao differentiation, channel point usage, and pattern treatment. Case studies will also be shared.

Part III
Marc summarizes the identification of patterns according to the 4 levels (Wei, Qi, Ying, and Xue) and shares how to modify for common complications such as fevers and damp patterns that might emerge to hinder an otherwise simple treatment plan. Marc also shares how to develop strategies for a powerful acupuncture treatment based on the understanding of Wen Bing principles, focusing on the Wei (Defensive-Qi) level and Qi level.

Part IV
Marc continues with strategies of treatment, focusing on the Ying (Nutrition) level and Xue (Blood) level. Lastly, Marc will address San Jiao differentiation and San Jiao pattern treatment.

San Jiao differentiation is based on the method of differentiating syndromes according to the theory of Wei, Qi, Ying, and Xue in conjunction with the principles governing transmission and transformation of acute febrile diseases. For the nature of the disease, there are two categories: febrile pathogens and damp-heat. Pathological changes resulting from febrile pathogens are analyzed with the theory of Wei, Qi, Yin, and Xue while the differentiation of pathological changes due to damp-heat is based on San Jiao differentiation.

Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:

• Recognize key characteristics of the four levels of Wen Bing theory
• Learn how to implement Wen Bing theory in practice
• Understand relationship between acupuncture points/channels and symptomology
• Be able to examine complex pathological presentations using Wen Bing theory and design an effective treatment protocol
• Learn San Jiao differentiation and San Jiao pattern treatment
