COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Myofascial Trigger Point (MTP) acupuncture is a specific type of acupuncture practice for the treatment of myofascial pain syndrome. This course addresses essentials of MTP acupuncture, reviewing the similarities and differences between MTP and other forms of acupuncture, as well as the reason for choosing MTP acupuncture versus traditional acupuncture.

Anthony Von der Muhll is an expert clinician with over 16 years of experience in sports medicine and pain management. He will discuss the implementation of MTP into your practice step-by-step, including cautions and contraindications, safety considerations, patient education and informed consent, and detailed needling techniques. MTP acupuncture of common and significant muscles in the context of the jing-jin (sinew meridian or myofascial tract) will also be covered.

Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:

  • Know and describe myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) and myofascial trigger points (MTP) in terms of AOM jing-jin disorders, and their relationships to patho-physiology and -anatomy
  • Know and describe the etiology, natural history, and prognosis of myofascial pain syndrome in AOM and standard medical terms.
  • Identify probable myofascial pain through taking patient histories.
  • Perform a physical examination for myofascial pain complaints and trigger points.
  • Know and describe indications, contraindications, cautions, safety considerations, patient education and informed consent, needling techniques, and outcomes for MTP acupuncture
