COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Craig Fiorini is a seasoned acupuncturist in the field of addiction, and in this course, Craig provides an introduction to the bio-medical causes of addiction which will include an in depth look into neuro-anatomy, specific areas of brain involvement, and neurotransmitters. A review of basic pharmacology will be given in order to gain a basis for understanding psychopharmacology and how it applies to addiction. Craig will also go over the physiology of intoxication, withdrawal, and the pharmacological interventions available for withdrawal syndrome. This course will allow participants to create a framework with which to integrate the biopsychosocial model of addiction with TCM principles. With this framework in mind, TCM treatment protocols for patients in each stage of addiction will also be shared.

Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:

  • Gain a basic understanding of addiction from a bio-medical perspective
  • Understand how to provide quality care with acupuncture to all patients with a history of addiction
  • Understand how to be able to provide quality referrals to patients and patients families
