Autoimmune diseases and multiple chemical sensitivities are common clinical disorders that are often inadequately diagnosed and treated by conventional pharmaceuticals. Drug toxicity and long-term side effects of anti-inflammatory medications can limit positive responses in many cases. In this course, Dr. Matt Van Benschoten goes over the use of Chinese herbal medicines for autoimmune disorders and multiple chemical sensitivities with support from pharmacological research literature that demonstrates regulatory effects on immune function, including such therapeutic targets as the interferons, interleukins, and tumor necrosis factor.
Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:
Learn the major categories of autoimmune disease and their immunological mechanisms
Know the immunopharmacology of specific Chinese herbs that can assist recovery and alleviate symptoms
Understand the major classes of environmental toxins that can lead to multiple chemical sensitivity
Learn a database of specific pathogenic factors with herbal relationships and be able to demonstrate the knowledge of using acupuncture points for diagnostic purposes.
