Dr. RAMAN KAPUR, aged 60 years, passed his MBBS from University College of Medical Sciences,New Delhi, India, in 1979. Thereafter he went abroad to Switzerland and Srilanka where he achieved Clinical experience in Acupuncture.
Dr. Kapur started Acupuncture Clinical Practice in 1982 at Rana PartapBagh, Delhi. He has achieved excellent results in the treatment of many chronic diseases. He is the Chairperson of the Department of Acupuncture at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, which he started 21 years ago, where he also conducts courses on Acupuncture Therapy for medical doctors.
He is the recipient of “ PadmaShri”, awarded by the Hon'ble President of India Smt. PratibhaPatil, in 2008, for developing the practice of scientific acupuncture in India and curing many patients suffering from intractable diseases. This is the first time in India when Padma Shri was given in the field of Acupuncture.
He is the youngest Indian Acupuncture Specialist who has been conferred the privilege of VISITING PROFESSOR to the most prestigious International University of Alternate Medicines.
On account of the results of research conducted and high rate of curative results achieved in various chronic ailments, the MEDICINA ALTERNATIVA (W.H.O.) in the year 1987, conferred the degree of M.D. (Acupuncture) to Dr. Raman Kapur at Copenhagen, Denmark.
In June, 1992, Dr. Kapur went to Taiwan to attend the 32nd Anniversary of the MedicinaAlternativa. He was conferred the GOLD MEDAL for best paper presentation on the ‘Role of Acupuncture in treatment of obesity’ at this Conference. He is the first Indian Doctor to have been honoured with this prestigious Gold Medal.
Dr. Kapur has written a book entitled ‘A GUIDE TO ACUPUNCTURE AND TISSUE CLEANSING SYSTEM’ which explains Acupuncture in simple language to a layman. This book was released by Hon’ble President of India, Dr. S.D. Sharma on the 3rd November, 1993.He was bestowed with the honour of ‘RATAN SHIROMANI AWARD-1994′ at a glittering function at the FICCI on the 23rd November 1994 by the Hon’ble Ex-President of India, GianiZail Singh. Dr. Raman Kapur added another feather to his cap by treating the First lady of India, Mrs. Vimla Sharma&Hon’ble Ex President of India, Shri. K.R.Narayanan.
On 15th of July 1997, the Hon’ble Ex President of India, Dr. S.D. Sharma released a book on ‘SOFT LASERS IN MEDICAL PRACTICE’ written by Dr. Raman Kapur. This book is an excellent guide for all doctors who are using soft lasers in practice, particularly the orthopedic doctors, the acupuncturist, cosmetologist, dentist and the skin specialist.
His latest book on Acupuncture entitled “ACUPUNCTURE-CURE FOR COMMON DISEASES”, was released by Smt. Sonia Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in India, on the 20th August, 1999. This book is an excellent guide for anybody who wishes to learn the basics of acupuncture and get treatment done, alongwith case histories of cured patients.
He is being ably assisted by his wife, Dr. Sunita Kapur who also practices acupuncture along with him.
Dr. Kapur’s interviews on Acupuncture have appeared in All National Dailies & also in News Magazines and Electronic media.
He was the CHAIRMAN of the ‘WORLD CONGRESS OF ACUPUNCTURE’ held at New Delhi in MARCH 1995 and thereafter in December,2012. Dr. Kapur is the Presidentof the “India Society of Medical Acupuncturists”. He is also the chairman of “National Coordination Committee”, which was formed in 2012 under his chairmanship to talk with the Government of India regarding granting status of Independent system of medicine to Acupuncture.
Dr. Kapur is also the chairman of the ‘Institute of Acupuncture & Natural Medicines’, where he conducts regular courses on Acupuncture and advanced courses on acupuncture. His publication was in the “International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture Vol. 1999″ on the Role of Acupuncture in the treatment of Obesity published from New York.
He was instrumental in forming the initial guidelines for the practice of acupuncture as a “MODE OF THERAPY” in India by the ICMR. Later, he worked with the ICMR and the Dept. of Health Research to get an order passed in June,2014 allowing dentists to practice acupuncture and thereafter in August,2016, allowing physiotherapists to practice acupuncture.
He worked very hard to get the Maharashtra state Acupuncture Bill passed in 2016 and presently he is also a member of the Maharashtra state Acupuncture council.
He was also the member of delegation of doctors which visited China in October,2016 on the invitation of Chinese Government.
Due to his continuous efforts, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has accepted Acupuncture as an independent system of Healthcare/therapy, an office order which was released on 21stfebruary,2019.
At present he is the vice chairman of the Apex Committee of acupuncture formed by the Government of India to suggest detailed guidelines for promotion and regulation of Acupuncture in India.
