Dr. Robert Chu is a Licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist renowned for his expertise in Master Tung Acupuncture methods. He is a prominent lecturer who travels globally to share his knowledge through the International Tung's Acupuncture Research Association (ITARA), which he founded in 2005. ITARA aims to preserve, standardize, educate, and research new applications of the Tung family system of Acupuncture with integrity and open sharing. The association now has branches throughout the United States, Canada, U.K., and Finland.
Dr. Chu serves as an adjunct professor at Emperor’s College DAOM program in Santa Monica and supervises externs at the Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center in Burbank, CA. He has previously supervised interns at The Disney Family Cancer Center and continues to teach students in the Doctorate program at Emperor’s College.
In his private practice in Los Angeles, Dr. Chu effectively treats pain, a wide variety of internal diseases, gynecological disorders, infertility, and side effects from cancer treatments. He regularly volunteers at Pasadena’s Cancer Support Community, where he conducts a weekly Qi Gong/Stress reduction class and a monthly lifestyle/nutrition class. Dr. Chu has also been a featured speaker for the American Cancer Society and was selected as the Acupuncturist for Olympic athletes at the 2004 Olympic Trials in Sacramento, CA.
Dr. Chu lectures nationally and internationally on Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, providing continuing education to MDs and Acupuncturists. He has lectured at various acupuncture colleges across the U.S. and in countries such as Finland, the U.K., Canada, France, and Spain, earning recognition as a dynamic and engaging speaker.
In addition to his medical expertise, Dr. Chu is a renowned Chinese Martial artist. He is a second-generation disciple of Ip Man (叶问) and has studied with Master Hawkins Cheung and Kwan Jong Yuen. He is famous for his skills in Long Pole (棍) and Double Knives (双刀) and is also an expert in Hung Ga (洪家), Lama/Hop Ga (喇嘛/侠家), Tai Ji Quan (太级拳), Xing Yi (形意拳), Ba Gua Quan (八卦拳), and Die Da Ke (跌打科). Dr. Chu has been featured in numerous martial arts magazines, written many articles, co-authored "Complete Wing Chun," and is featured in instructional DVDs. He embodies the ancient Chinese ideal of balancing scholarly and martial achievements (文武双成).
